Feather Cake

One Egg

One cup of sugar

One tablespoonful of cold Butter

half a cup of Milk

One and one-half cups of flour

One teaspoonful of cream of tartar

Half a teaspoonful of baking

soda

A nice plain Cake--to be eaten while it is fresh.

Combine all ingredients and bake at 350 degrees until done.

A spoonful of dried Apple Sauce or of Peach Sauce, a spoonful of Jelly, the same of Lemon extract, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Cloves and spice--ground--or half a cupful of Raisins might be added for a change.

All these recipes are from a cookbook I am working on, a treasure trove of recipes from the late 1700's to early 1900's. These recipes are perfect for homesteaders or people who just love to play with food. Subscribe to our list to keep updated on recipes.
